Christopher Tolkien did a fantastic job following his father's style as found in the Silmarillion. The vast amount of additional material does no violence to the material in the Silmarillion.
I would caution readers that the "Children of Hurin" is a tragedy of major proportions. The writing is great, but the story is so very sad! No one should read this book when they are blue.
