Paris for President?

Well, if character doesn't matter and you want real, real change, I think she might be a viable option. For those of you familiar with my new political party the Eyecandy Party . . . this could be the answer.

And let us not forget, she was not thrust into the political landscape by John McCain, nor did he make the first comparison of her and Senator Obama.
As quoted in Time magazine in 2005 . . .

Senator Obama himself made that first comparison.

Unfortunately, her video contains one use of profanity (it rhymes with witches), so view at your own risk.

I would bet that as President, she could get meetings with the vast majority of world leaders. I am not so sure those who are what we might call the more radical fundamentalist followers of Islam would meet with her,or maybe one of them would marry her thereby forging a lasting peace like it used to happen when the Prince of a country married a Princess from another.

Once again, I find myself searching for meaning in suffering, nearly blinding myself trying to see the face of the Invisible God. Once again, He reaches out and touches me with a song.

I, personally, find my strength and courage in God. That peace that

My boss and friend Wendy and her family, my sisters and brother, Andy, my niece Adrienne, my husband Jerry, the Gunderson family and so many others who choose to look forward as best as they can, by the grace and mercy of God. Our drive to purchase more things at lower and lower prices has its cost well beyond our own house. I had pretty much decided to stop buying things made in China. Now I am committed to that policy. China is quickly becoming a vast toxic land. This can only lead to trouble for the world. They have several options, the two most likely to me are that they will either change and clean up their environment as many other nations are doing, or they will need to get more land.

Much of the money China has earned in the world market have gone to purchase large enough amounts of US T bills that they could pretty much ruin the value of our dollar, however, not without great financial losses on their part at this time.

Abstract:

The recycling of printed circuit boards in Guiyu, China, a village intensely involved in e-waste processing, may present a significant environmental and human health risk. To evaluate the extent of heavy metals (Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn) contamination from printed circuit board recycling, surface dust samples were collected from recycling workshops, adjacent roads, a schoolyard, and an outdoor food market. ICP-OES analyses revealed elevated mean concentrations in workshop dust (Pb 110 000, Cu 8360, Zn 4420, and Ni 1500 mg/kg) and in dust of adjacent roads (Pb 22 600, Cu 6170, Zn 2370, and Ni 304 mg/kg). Lead and Cu in road dust were 330 and 106, and 371 and 155 times higher, respectively, than non e-waste sites located 8 and 30 km away. Levels at the schoolyard and food market showed that public places were adversely impacted. Risk assessment predicted that Pb and Cu originating from circuit board recycling have the potential to pose serious health risks to workers and local residents of Guiyu, especially children, and warrants an urgent investigation into heavy metal related health impacts. The potential environmental and human health consequences due to uncontrolled e-waste recycling in Guiyu serves as a case study for other countries involved in similar crude recycling activities.

Don't get me wrong here, I'm not saying all is rosy in US Industrial practices, we need to watch our sources and hold them responsible for their environmental practices here and all over the world by purchasing less and items that have a smaller impact on the environment..

Here we are! We are so grateful for our two families who each gave us a week's free lodging in Hawaii. My mom and dad and our son and his wife.

We had a great time. On our hike up Diamond Head, we went early in the morning to avoid the heat of the day. There were many friendly people we met along the way. Jerry, as a MAJOR, war and history buff, loved seeing the tunnels and bunkers carved into the mountain by hand.

The view of Honolulu was spectacular!!

The trekking poles really helped on the hike. As most of you know, I am not supposed to walk very far without a cane. However, since the problem is both hips, I chose trekking poles. That way I get the support but can walk in an anatomically correct manner. Those poles came in handy the whole trip.

I will post more little mini-journals of our trip.

Our residents are young women who want to change and move beyond their difficult circumstances, yet have never found a source for help before Mercy Ministries. Young women who have graduated from the Mercy Ministries program are truly transformed. They are found in universities, corporations, ministries, the mission field, and raising families. At Mercy Ministries, they learn to believe in themselves and in God's love for them and gain life-skills that equip them for successful reintegration into society.

For our pregnant residents, we provide a Basic Decision Making Program that assists the young woman in deciding about parenting or placing her baby for adoption. We provide parenting classes for those who decide to parent and grief counseling for those who chose to place their child.

Since 1987, we have had the joy of assisting hundreds of birth mothers with the placement of their babies into loving faithful families. We have also had the joy of over 150 babies being born to girls who have decided to parent their child.

Due to the generosity of many individuals, businesses and foundations, Mercy Ministries operates debt free and only expands after raising the funds for operating a new home. We do not receive any state or federal funding. We are audited by an independent accounting firm each year, and our 2005 audit shows we spent 76% of our operating expenses on program costs.

Nice! Now if I only had the $400,000 to buy me one. Does it come with a fridge and hot tub? TV and DVD player? WII with Guitar Hero, yeah that's the ticket . . . hmmm would you get a ticket? I recently heard (hat tip to mk) about a woman who put her RV on cruise control and then walked back into the kitchen to make a sandwich. This would have eliminated the wreck and subsequent lawsuit that she won because she thought it was already installed!? I guess with the millions she won, she should buy this system for her RV, or just make her wraps pre-trip like the rest of us. She's definitely trippin' in more ways than one.

I am so used to being behind it, I look like a dork when it's pointed at me. My friend Melissa painted me from the photo and surprised me with the painting above yesterday!! "Bomb" Scares and the War of the Worlds

When Orson Wells broadcast "War of the Worlds" in 1939, people listened, heard the aliens were on their block and killed themselves without ever looking out their windows to see if it was true. Yep. It never occurred to them that they might have heard noises or that if the electricity were actually out they couldn't be listening to their radios. It has been a while since I studied this, so I am just stating my opinion based on recollections from a paper I wrote in the 80s. (Wonder where that paper is?)

Anyway, the point is that some cities are full of silly people. We have witnessed a recent event, by way of an ad campaign by the Cartoon Network, that most cities got through unscathed, but one city found overwhelming. AND, now we know they will get a couple mill out of it. Here is Jimmy Kimmel's take on it. I especially like the Homeland Security PSA (Public Service Announcement) at the end. Enjoy!

So, by now we all know that this is the most unhappy week of the year based on the formula by Cliff Arnall, a health psychologist at the University of Cardiff in Wales. The formula goes something like this:

W + (D-d) x TQ

The variables are (W)eather, (D)ebt, (d) monthly salary, (T)ime since Christmas, time since failure to (Q)uit a bad habit, low (M)otivational levels and (NA), the need to take action.

It's the January Blues, which is, coincidentally, the title track off my debut CD (coming soon). Okay, I call it that as a song promo, but it's catchy, ya gotta admit that.

Anyway, I, like the rest of the residents of the USA and Britain to whom this formula applies (it is science after all), have been doing my level best to not give in to the inevitable. Unfortunately, I had not been as successful as I had hoped. That is until this morning.

Remember you heard this here first!

I WON SECOND PRIZE IN A BEAUTY CONTEST!!! WOOHOO!!!

Oh yeah, it feels good. Especially since I know, KNOW! I say, that I would have taken first place had Melissa had a chance to cut my hair before the contest. Once that woman goes after my head with a razor, it's gonna be all over, for the competition, that is.

Yep, so there I was in the um library sitting on the er um seat, yeah, the seat, so there I was and working on, among other things, my acquisition and entrepreneurial skills on my PDA, when I get the message.

"You have won second prize in a beauty contest." $10 prize.

Not only am I the most beautiful, but I get ten small, er mini, to boot! And you know if I had had had had (sorry) the haircut, I would have been awarded first place.

TOTALLY WICKED!!!

So, forget about psychological formulas.

Forget about the whole "I am one of those people who just don't like to be held back."

Forget it all, baby, because I am a WINNER!

Plus, I had three monopolies!

So, go out there and make it a good week. Don't give in to the morose pundits and psycho-the-rapists who want to tell you you can't be happy this week or any week.

Remember, good things can be found in bad places even when you least expect it.

Okay, and don't let the "Oh, she's listening to Amy Grant" thing convince you of anything regarding my musical tastes. Lead Me On is simply one of the best albums ever made. And, be assured, I haven't switched over to listening to hard core MOR (middle-of-the-road) I am still in my
